Muhammad Aimal Marjan
Aimal Marjan is National IT Policy Advisor to the Ministry
of Communications, Afghanistan, where he consults on areas such as ISP licensing,
Internet exchanges, country domain and general capacity-building issues in
the ministry. Prior to joining the ministry, he served as IT Advisor to the
Director of the Afghan Assistance Coordination Authority. He was also the
project manager of GDLN, a World Bank project, which provided eight government
offices with Internet and intranet facilities. He is the founder and chairman
of the Afghan Computer Science Association, which was founded in 1999. Marjan
was Technical and Academic Advisor of the Computer Science Department of
the Islamic University for Science and Technology (IUST), Jalalabad, Afghanistan.
His main achivements at IUST include the establishment of the Computer Science
Department, the design of the curriculum and student laboratory, conduct
of the first entry test and intensive training of staff of the university
on basic computer topics. He remains very close to the academe; he was a
visiting faculty member of the Economic Department of IIUI and is now a visiting
faculty member of the Computer Science Department of Kabul University.
