Hugh Thaweesak Koanantakool
Dr. Thaweesak received his bachelor's degree in electrical
engineering and PhD in digital communications from the Imperial College of
Science and Technology. He had taught, since 1981, at the Prince of Songkla
University and Thammasat University before joining the National Electronics
and Computer Technology Centre (NECTEC) in 1994. In 1986, Thaweesak played
a central role in defining the standard code for the Thai language on computers.
He was the key person behind the establishment of the first Internet connection
in Thailand. He was appointed Director of NECTEC as well as the Executive
Secretary of the National IT Committee (NITC) in July 1998. The work with
NITC involved the IT Policy Framework for Thailand 2002-2010 (IT-2010) and
the first National ICT Masterplan for 2002-2006.
